Back on the Blogging World

It has been sometime since we have updated our blog (too long) but we are going to try and update this more regularly! We will share upcoming events, important information, stories, and anything we feel you would like to know about! We are going to try to have different people blog (from the Minnesota office, the New York office, and possibly even students and staff from PHS) in order to give you a complete view of everything that is taking place at  Peace House Africa and Peace House Secondary School!   Feel free to leave comments or suggestions on what you would like to hear about!

Kilimanjaro Bowl

On Saturday, May 21, 2011, college football teams from the USA and Mexico will compete in Arusha’s Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium.  Thousands of curious fans are making their way to Arusha to watch this American style football game. Peace House Secondary School(PHS) students will be among these  fans and are going to be participating in the half time show! 100 of these students have also signed up to attend coaching clinics conducted by both Drake University Players and the CONADEIP All Stars .  “The practices and clinics will be the first time the media and youth of Arusha have been exposed to American football and that will create an exciting and unique story, said Global Football President and event organizer”.-PATRICK STEENBERGE. (http://www.kilibowl.com/press-conference-football-coaching-clinics/)

Peace House Africa has  arrange for 15 Drake University players to come on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. They will be given a tour, have a change to sit down and talk to a group of students who are participating in the clinic,  and will be allow them to join in extra-curricular activities.

The Kilimanjaro Bowl is a great opportunity for the children of PHS to learn the basic fundamentals of American Football while at the same time exposing the Drake players to PHS, our mission, and how great of need there is to not only support and educate these children but make them “change agents” for Tanzania’s future.

We are all really excited  that our students will get to participate in this event and all the opportunities that could come from it!

Upcoming 18 Hole Scamble

There is an upcoming Golf Tournament at the Wilds Golf Cub near Prior Lake on Monday, June 27th.   This year it will be a Foursome 18 Hole Scramble instead of the 100 Holes we have done in the past.  You will be golfing to support the students of Peace House Secondary School.  If you would like more information on this upcoming event email Elaina at elaina@peacehouseafrica.org.  or visit http://www.golfcharity.net/index.php/2011/05/peace-house-africa-charity-golf-event-minnesota-golf-tournament/.  We hope to see you there! :)

Chase just got back from PHS!

This is the most exciting news I have found today! While browsing the web I came across Chase Loken’s blog about his experience at PHS.  He was there for three weeks and blogged frequently.  This is a great way to gain some insight on what it is really like to visit PHS and all the experience that come along with the trip! http://chaseloken.blogspot.com/   We love hearing about your experiences at PHS and the interactions you have with the students. So, if you have a story we would love to hear about it! We could never thank you enough for your support! You are making a difference in these children lives more than you could imagine.

I think that is it for today. Lots of exciting things taking place here at Peace House Africa! Like I said early, we want your feedback! Let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions! You can leave comments or e-mail me, Lisa, at lisa@peacehouseafrica.org. If you want more information on Peace House Africa please visit www.peacehouseafrica.com

Hope you have a good day!

Lisa
